About

Hello, I'm Jean Yawn and I've been living and working in Baltimore since 2015. Before moving to Baltimore, I lived in Minneapolis and before that I spent my childhood in different cities across Alaska. As a neurodivergent and queer Asian American who has moved across the states, I believe identities are too complicated to be put into neat little boxes. My own experiences have taught me that we are all complex beings and we all have a need to understand ourselves and the people around us.

My previous clinical experiences include providing outpatient psychotherapy for a group practice and working with patients within the University of Maryland Medical System. My experience as a social worker involved helping patients and caregivers navigate issues related to chronic health conditions, processing traumatic events or coping with the loss of loved ones.

Before my life as a social worker and psychotherapist, I worked in a variety of roles and settings as a graphic designer, arts instructor for outreach classes and colleges and as a manager in corporate positions.  Eventually I was led to pursue social work so that I could expand my passion of working with people in meaningful ways. I hold a Master's of Social Work in Behavioral Health from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and I'm licensed as a clinical social worker in the state of Maryland.

I often work with diverse individuals who are seeking relief from Depression and Anxiety or who need support managing life with ADHD and Autism. Many of my clients have also engaged in ongoing psychotherapy sessions to understand the impacts of adverse childhood experiences or to navigate life transitions, relationship conflicts and grief.

I believe that it is my responsibility as a clinician to engage in continuous learning. I enjoy reading nonfiction and my research interests include humanistic, collaborative and creative interventions. I am interested in research concerning socio-emotional development, building resilience, and improving health outcomes throughout the lifespan. Outside of clinical work, I also enjoy cooking, painting, making pottery, watering my houseplants and fostering animals.
